Travel notes & practical advice

Planning an accessible cruise port day

Coordinate cruise-line access, an accessible vehicle, a realistic shore itinerary and the return-to-ship time for your Dominican Republic port call.

Begin with the cruise line’s arrangements

Confirm the port, ship, arrival date and all-aboard time on your itinerary. Ask the cruise line about the gangway or tender arrangements for your chair. A land excursion provider cannot confirm access on a ship or tender it does not operate.

Keep the meeting point precise

A port can have several exits and vehicle pickup areas. Ask for a written meeting point and a way to contact the driver after disembarkation. Include the time needed to reach that point with your group; the ship’s arrival time is not necessarily the time you will be ready to leave.

Choose fewer stops and a clear return buffer

Select one main interest and a secondary stop that can be skipped if disembarkation is slow. Make the return deadline part of the confirmed itinerary. Check accessible toilet options and how far each stop is from the vehicle.

Send the correct vehicle requirements

Provide wheelchair measurements, whether you remain seated in it, and every companion travelling with you. If the ship changes port or arrival time, contact the provider before relying on the original plan.

Request the land arrangement

Our shore excursion page is the place to discuss the route. Admission, meals and guide services depend on the confirmed proposal. Keep the cruise line’s instructions with the ground-service confirmation.
