Wheelchair accessible transport, planned around your chair

Request a wheelchair-accessible van for an airport arrival, a hotel departure, a day out or a journey between destinations. Access4Disabled starts with the requirements of the traveler and the wheelchair. A vehicle described simply as a van may not have a ramp, lift, sufficient entrance height or appropriate wheelchair restraints. We review these details before confirming a vehicle. Tell us whether you will remain seated in your wheelchair or transfer to a passenger seat, and include all companions and luggage in the request.

Before we assign your van

Provide the wheelchair’s overall width and length, its occupied height, and the combined weight of the chair and traveler where a loading limit needs to be checked. Identify whether the chair is manual or powered and whether it folds. Describe practical assistance needed for boarding rather than sending a diagnosis. Ramp or lift capacity, doorway clearance, interior headroom and restraint compatibility must be agreed for the assigned vehicle. A driver’s assistance does not automatically include lifting a person or personal care; request any additional support in advance.

Airport pickups and hotel departures

Include your flight number, arrival date and terminal when requesting a pickup at Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Romana or another Dominican airport. Airport assistance and ground transportation are separate arrangements: book assistance with your airline and tell us where the handover should happen. For departures, provide your flight time as well as the proposed pickup time. Keep your confirmation available and advise the team if the flight, destination or number of passengers changes.

A useful route begins with an exact address

Use the full hotel, resort, villa, cruise terminal or venue name. Large resorts may have several entrances and reception buildings, and similarly named properties may be in different areas. Ask the accommodation which entrance offers a step-free route from the vehicle to reception. A map pin alone does not explain a steep driveway, narrow gate or restricted loading zone. Share a practical meeting point and any hotel delivery restrictions so the plan can include the final part of the journey.

Travel between more than one destination

You can request a route involving Punta Cana, Bávaro, Cap Cana, Uvero Alto, Bayahibe, La Romana, Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata or Samaná. Each journey is checked separately; a service offered for one destination is not a guarantee of availability elsewhere. For longer drives, discuss breaks, accessible toilets and space for additional equipment. Include both directions of a round trip. If you change hotels during your holiday, align your equipment rental and collection arrangements with the transport itinerary.

A clear quote before you travel

The final confirmation should identify the pickup location, date, time, vehicle arrangements, passenger count and agreed assistance. Ask which waiting time, stops, parking or terminal charges are included and which would be additional. An online request is not an instant confirmation or an emergency transport service. Review the quote and cancellation conditions before accepting. For a group with several wheelchair users, provide the total number of wheelchair spaces needed at the same time rather than assuming one van can accommodate everyone.

Connect your transport with the rest of your stay

Arrange daily equipment rental alongside your vehicle request when you need a walker, shower chair or beach wheelchair at the hotel. Read our hotel accessibility directory and ask the hotel to confirm the room and route details relevant to you. For airport facilities and arrival information, use the official Punta Cana airport website. Keep copies of separate airline, hotel and transport confirmations; they cover different parts of your journey.
