Planning an accessible Dominican Republic holiday

Practical guidance to prepare accessible dominican republic holiday arrangements before your Dominican Republic trip.

Build the trip around your everyday routine

Start with the things that make an ordinary day comfortable: getting out of bed, using the bathroom, moving between rooms and finding a place to rest. These details will help you choose accommodation more reliably than a long list of attractions. Agree the essential room features before booking non-refundable arrangements.

Punta Cana is our main base for mobility rentals and wheelchair transport. Journeys and deliveries elsewhere are arranged around the route and local availability. If your holiday combines several regions, discuss the whole itinerary early.

Choose a base, then compare rooms

For a resort holiday, compare The Westin Puntacana, Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana and other entries in the hotel guide by the facilities you need. These are properties with published accessibility information, not a guarantee that every room or activity is suitable.

For a city stay, check the room and the transport route to the places you want to visit. Being near an attraction on a map does not mean the pavement route is suitable for your chair.

Connect the airport, hotel and equipment

Book airline assistance through the airline, then arrange the ground transfer separately. Tell the transport provider whether you remain seated in your wheelchair and provide chair dimensions, occupied height, companions and luggage.

Align equipment delivery with your arrival and arrange any hotel authorization beforehand. Meet the delivery team at the lobby when access is permitted, or at the security gate if entry is not authorized. Keep equipment needed during the flight or airport process in your own travel plan; a hotel rental starts with the agreed handover.

Leave room for the enjoyable parts

Choose one main activity for an outing, then add a meal or scenic stop if the route and your energy allow it. A short shopping visit, a relaxed restaurant evening or a coastal drive can be easier to adapt than a packed coach itinerary. Read things to do around Punta Cana for ideas and the access questions behind them.

Keep a compact travel file

Save your confirmed room features, transport instructions, rental reference, addresses and return times where you and a companion can find them offline. Record changes with the relevant provider. A planning enquiry, a quotation and a paid confirmation are different documents; use the latest confirmed arrangement for each service.
